On the Big Island of Hawaii, Crown Pacific International (CPI) began operations in December 1997 with two local partners and a California business and tax attorney. Three years after starting off only with ginger, CPI expanded to include papaya, sweet potato, tropical fruit (Longan, Lychee, and Rambutan), and herbs (Italian and Thai Basil). These additions were shipped all throughout the United States.
The company thereafter started growing and marketing Organic ginger, a relatively new commodity, with an emphasis on quality rather than quantity. Due to its stringent growing guidelines and agriculture compliance certification, CPI is one of the largest organic ginger marketers on the island. By packaging and delivering the product to the processing facility for puree to market around the US, CPI has also invented a method to eliminate ginger waste.
Among the first companies to export Okinawa purple sweet potatoes to markets on the mainland was CPI. In order to address the expectations of the rapidly expanding organic industry, CPI once more refocused on quality above quantity with Organic Turmeric in 2013. As a minority-owned company in 2020, CPI is still committed to offering top-notch goods and top-notch customer support.
