From 2018 to July 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in South Korea reported a total of 14,588 cases of agricultural and livestock products with false country of origin labels, with 38% of these cases traced back to China. The US was the second largest source of these violations. The most common products found to have false labels were cabbage kimchi, pork, and beef. Additionally, 12,294 products lacked country of origin labels, with Chinese products again being the majority. The total value of these products distributed in the market during this period was 422.4 billion won. South Korea's People Power Party is now working on a bill to address these issues and promote domestic agricultural and livestock products.
