The National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA) has provided guinea pig breeding and starchy corn agronomic management techniques to small and medium-sized producers in the Apurímac region's provinces of Andahuaylas and Chincheros. This transfer of knowledge, conducted by the Santa Ana Agrarian Experimental Station of the INIA, aims to enhance the meat capacity of guinea pigs for commercial and industrial use and increase the quality and competitiveness of starchy corn crops. The training covered various aspects, including genetic improvement protocols for guinea pigs, high-quality forage production, animal health management, and international shed installation standards. Additionally, INIA provided instruction on seed multiplication processes of local starchy corn varieties, integrated pest and disease control, and sustainable agricultural practices, with the expectation that producers will see increased income due to improved guinea pig meat capacity and starchy corn yield per hectare.
