The National Service of Agrifood Health and Quality (Senasa) in Uruguay has temporarily halted imports of poultry products and by-products from Brazil due to an outbreak of H5N1 avian influenza confirmed on a poultry farm in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. This preventive measure aims to curb the spread of the disease, following official confirmation of the outbreak. The suspension includes products for human and animal consumption, and will be in effect until further notice. Additionally, Senasa has recommended precautions for poultry establishments to minimize contact between wild and domestic birds, in an effort to mitigate the economic and health impacts of the disease on poultry farming.
