Argentina may reduce wheat planting area due to rainfall deficit

According to forecasts from the Ministry of Agriculture of Argentina, due to insufficient rainfall, the area under wheat in the country in 2023/24 MY may decrease by 0.2 million hectares from the preliminary estimate - to 5.6 million hectares, which is also 0.3 million hectares less compared to the previous season.

At the same time, according to monitoring data from the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange, as of September 20, 78% of grain crops in Argentina were in good or excellent condition (a year earlier - 58%).

Also this season, a reduction in the area sown with barley is expected – from 1.8 million hectares in 2022/23 MY to 1.6 million hectares.

The area under other crops is expected to remain at the same level as the previous year. In particular, 10.5 million hectares are planted under corn (including for silage) (5% of the planned area is sown), soybeans - 16 million hectares, and sunflowers - 2.4 million hectares.
