PARIS (Reuters) - Australian farmers are on their way to harvest a record 34.4 million tonnes of wheat this season, said the country's leading commodities analyst, as he raised his official estimate for the 2021/22 crop. Expected production would be 3% above the previous record volume in 2020/21, said the Australian Bureau of Agricultural Sciences and Economics (Abares). The agency predicted in September that the new crop would be the second largest ever recorded after 2020/21. The prospect of increased production reinforces expectations of abundant yields in the Australian crop, although Abares also echoed market concerns about the damage caused by rains on crops.
