The largest changes in area are in the states of Lower Saxony (+13,300 hectares), Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt (+11,900 hectares each) and Schleswig-Holstein (+11,400 hectares) Winter grain was sown on 5.0 million hectares for the 2022 harvest. This means that the area sown for winter grain for the 2022 harvest remains almost unchanged compared to the area under cultivation in 2021 (-0.7% or -34,300 hectares). Winter cereals include winter wheat, winter barley, rye and winter marsh cereals as well as the wheat-rye cross triticale. The area where winter wheat, the most important type of cereal in Germany, is likely to increase only slightly compared to 2021, by 10,500 hectares to 2.9 million hectares. A decrease of ...
