The Sierra Centro Sur Special Project (PESCS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), has launched the Acocro Guinea Pig Project in Ayacucho, Peru, with an aim to improve the quality of guinea pigs and boost the economic growth of 215 producers in six towns. The project has started by acquiring 1,000 regular breeding guinea pigs and 125 of the Perú breed, which will be housed in five modules across five towns. Specialists will look after these breeding modules, focusing on increasing the birth rate to three pups per litter through a diet of grasses and balanced feed. This initiative is designed to enhance the quality of life of the producers and contribute to their economic development.
