Top global banana exporting countries face problems

The increase in production costs, added to the container crisis, caused the price of bananas to become more expensive. For this reason, the main importing countries prefer to substitute the Ecuadorian fruit for the Colombian one. With respect to bananas from the Philippines, exports suffered a 4% contraction compared to the previous year, reaching 2.6 million tons. This country has faced serious difficulties in making its shipments. The producers have not had the necessary resources to tend their crops, which has caused a reduction in the quality of the fruit. Finally, banana exports in Costa Rica have been facing the same challenges as Ecuadorian fruit: increased production costs.
