The associations for malting barley as well as the state agricultural agencies and agricultural chambers regularly create harvest forecasts within this framework. These forecasts expect a slightly below-average malting barley harvest for Germany, while predominantly good qualities with slightly increased protein levels are predicted. The malting barley harvest in Germany has now begun and is delivering first reliable results from the most important growing regions, which have been reported by the state promotional associations to the Malting Barley Community e.V.: Initial results for winter malting barley are available from Rhineland-Palatinate. The areas harvested so far are achieving yields of around 6.5 t/ha. With an average protein content of 10% and a full malting barley content of 93%, both protein and sorting values are in the good middle range.
