(Changwon=Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Jeong-hoon = Gyeongnam Province announced that it will control the entry of livestock vehicles to 12 migratory bird arrival sites starting from the 1st to prevent the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI).
The control period will last until February 28 of next year.
During this period, livestock vehicles will not be allowed to enter 12 migratory bird arrival sites, including Junam Reservoir (Changwon City), Upo Wetland, Bongsan Wetland, Jangcheok Wetland, Topyeong Stream (all in Changnyeong County), Sacheon Bay (Sacheon City), Goseong Stream (Goseong County), Yangsan Stream (Yangsan City), Hwapo Stream, Bonggok Stream, Haeban Stream, and Sachon Stream (all in Gimhae City).
These 12 migratory bird arrival sites are areas where AI has occurred in the past or where the AI virus has been detected in migratory bird feces, dead bodies, or living birds.
Livestock vehicles that violate the entry control of migratory bird arrival sites will be subject to a fine of up to 10 million won under the Livestock Infectious Disease Prevention Act.
