The town of Santa Maria de Jetibá in Espírito Santo, Brazil, the country's largest egg producer, has seen a significant increase in egg prices due to a rise in demand, high production costs, and market dynamics. A box of white eggs now costs 233.55 reais, up 37.9% from February 2024, and red eggs have increased by 40.8% to 264.21 reais. The price hike is attributed to factors such as increased production costs, weather conditions, and reduced supplies. Despite concerns about avian influenza in the United States, which imported 220 tons of Brazilian eggs last month, there's no evidence of a link between the U.S. outbreak and domestic prices in Brazil. Most eggs are still sold domestically, with only a small fraction exported.
