The multiple grain price explosion is not caused by the smaller crop, but by the imbalance between supply and demand, said Zoltán Lakatos, President and CEO of Hajdú Gabona Zrt. He pointed out that world wheat stocks have declined, despite the French and English producing 20 million tonnes more this year. The Romanians were hardly left behind, having been able to deliver 11 million tonnes of harvested crops to warehouses this year after 6 million tonnes in 2020. In the EU, Italians are the largest buyers of wheat, but more than half of the world’s wheat stocks are in China.
