A case of foot-and-mouth disease, a new strain (serotype O), has been reported in cattle in South Korea, marking the first such incident in nearly two years. The outbreak, which occurred in Yeongam County, has led to the culling of 72 animals and has prompted authorities to impose strict measures to curb the spread. These measures include disinfection, sanitary slaughter, and disposal of animals, health monitoring, epidemiological investigation, access restrictions, and a temporary ban on the transportation of livestock and livestock products. Over 1.15 million animals on 9,000 farms in the affected area will receive preventive vaccinations and clinical tests.
