China bans import of Brazilian soybeans

The measure was taken by the General Administration of Customs of China and communicated to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. Among the suspended units are two Cargill plants in São Paulo, as well as facilities of Louis Dreyfus and CHS Agronegócio in the same state. The affected 3Tentos unit is in Rio Grande do Sul. The sanctions only affect these plants, allowing other facilities of the companies to continue exporting normally. According to the Chinese authority, about ten tons of wheat with prohibited chemical coating were found on the ship. The treatment applied is classified as toxic and intended solely for planting, which, for customs, represents an unacceptable sanitary risk. As Brazilian wheat is not authorized for export to the country, the presence of the grain reinforced the violation of trade and food safety standards.
