Chinese importers are believed to have made large purchases of feed corn from Ukraine over the past two weeks, traders in Asia and Europe told Reuters last week. Traders were unable to provide exact volumes, but some said they amounted to several hundred thousand tons. A source in the Ukrainian government also confirmed corn sales to China. Importers in China purchased about 10-12 bulk carriers (Panamax type, more than 60 thousand tons) of Ukrainian corn for shipment in November-December, noted a Singapore trader for an international grain company. China has traditionally been one of the largest buyers of Ukrainian corn to meet its animal feed needs. Chinese corn shipments were among the largest shipments moving through the U.N.-backed secure shipping channel from Ukrainian ports, which ended in July after Russia pulled out of the grain deal.
