China resumes imports of beef from Brazil, which focuses on new authorizations

BEIJING (Reuters) - China announced on Thursday that it agreed to immediately resume imports of Brazilian beef, meeting market expectations that the sanitary interruption would be relatively brief, while Brazil's government assesses that the move could be a step towards new slaughterhouse qualifications for the Asian country. Sales from Brazil, whose main foreign market is China, were voluntarily suspended by the Brazilian authorities on February 23, after the discovery of an atypical case of "mad cow" disease, when the animal suffers from the disease due to old age and does not there is a risk to the production chain.
