China has introduced guidelines to boost biotech cropping to support agricultural technology and food security. The strategy, set to be implemented from 2024 to 2028, focuses on developing gene-editing tools and creating new varieties of wheat, corn, soybeans, and canola. The goal is to establish independent and controllable seed sources for these crops, with a focus on high-yielding, multi-resistant varieties. The initiative also includes programs to breed high-yielding livestock with improved reproductive capabilities and disease resistance.
