Cotton harvest loses area and productivity

According to the weekly analysis released on Monday (1) by the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea), the agency presented the new estimate for the 2025/26 cotton crop in Mato Grosso. The report states that "the projected area for cotton cultivation in Mato Grosso stood at 1.43 million hectares," a result that represents a 1.74% decrease from the previous month and a 7.28% decrease compared to the previous year. The Institute states that part of this reduction occurs due to "higher production costs and falling lint prices." Additionally, the document points out that the soybean crop was affected in some regions by the weather, which "may still influence the planning of the second cotton crop." In evaluating productivity, Imea explains that it maintained the methodology based on the weighted average of previous crops.
