Cassava growers in the Gia Lai province of Vietnam are facing challenges due to low prices and reduced productivity. The price of fresh cassava has significantly dropped this year, leading to financial losses for many farmers. Unusual weather conditions have also caused diseases to affect the cassava plants, further reducing yields. As a result, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Phu Thien district has reported that the price of cassava is over 1,000 VND/kg lower than last year, and productivity has decreased by 5-7 tons/ha due to hot weather. Despite these challenges, cassava starch processing factories in the province are purchasing fresh cassava from farmers to help them overcome financial difficulties.
