The Department of Agriculture (DA) in the Bicol region has imposed a price freeze on all basic agricultural commodities in response to the African swine fever outbreak and the state of calamity declared by President Rodrigo Duterte. The price freeze, in effect for 60 days, prevents retailers from changing prices and requires them to adhere to the price caps set by the DA. Violators could face an administrative fine of up to PHP1 million and a maximum of 10 years in prison. The price cap ranges for different commodities are also specified in the report.
