During the last year the volume of fruit and vegetables consumed in Spanish households has decreased, as well as the expenditure invested in them. This decline comes after a 2020 in which the demand for these foods remained on the rise. In 2021, the outlook for fruit and vegetables suffered a negative evolution. According to the Spanish Federation of Associations of Exporting Producers of Fruit, Vegetables, Flowers and Live Plants (Fepex), fruit fell by 7%, covering 3,642 million kilograms. In addition, spending was reduced by 8%, bringing together 6,158 million euros. For its part, vegetables fell by 8% in volume, adding 2,292 million kilograms, and spending fell by the same percentage, with 4,424 million euros. As for potatoes, household demand fell by 10%, with 800 million kilograms, and spending fell by 12%, estimated at 710 million euros.
