In Week 24 (June 9-15), the average price for 30/40 head-on shell-on (HOSO) frozen shrimp was $4.60/kg, fluctuating within a $0.10/kg range over the past month, while other specifications remained relatively stable.
Domestic wholesale markets have also ended their downward trend, with 30/40 frozen shrimp prices ranging from CNY 37.50-CNY 40.36/kg ($5.22–$5.62/kg), with specific prices influenced by different manufacturer brand premiums and inventory levels. 20/30 prices were between CNY 45.00/kg-CNY 49.72/kg, 40/50 between CNY 37.78/kg-CNY 39.64/kg, and 50/60 between CNY 35.56/kg-CNY 37.04/kg.
Multiple sources indicated that current prices may have already bottomed out, with limited potential for further decline and a higher likelihood of increase.
A Beijing importer told UCN: "Prices should not drop in the next half month, and Ecuadorian factories will likely plan a price increase before the Zhanjiang Water Conference (June 18). Based on the current market, we are at the bottom, with only a slight fluctuation of a few cents."
Another Shanghai importer stated: "We expect prices to remain stable for about a month. Demand may decrease before July 9 (the deadline for reciprocal tariff negotiations), and manufacturers unable to bear tariffs will seek new markets, with China being one of them. I've heard Vietnam has already started taking action."
Ecuador's reciprocal tariff rate is only 10%, far lower than other Asian countries (ranging from 26% to 46%).
An Ecuadorian manufacturer (A) noted that due to tariff advantages, US market demand for Ecuadorian shrimp is very strong. "As the July 9 deadline approaches, no one wants to pay an additional 10% tariff if it can be canceled. Some US buyers are eager to ship, while others choose to hold."
Another Ecuadorian manufacturer (B) said: "The Chinese market maintains stable demand for frozen
