Standardized animal welfare assessment methods (ABM) and risks leading to welfare consequences are also described in the opinion for each welfare consequence. The opinion contains measures that should be put in place to prevent or correct the risks and mitigate the very important effects on welfare. EFSA's experts make a number of detailed recommendations, including suggestions on quantitative or qualitative criteria to answer specific questions on the welfare of breeding pigs that emerged under the European Citizens' Initiative "End the cage age".
