On February 2, starting at 10 am, Embrapa and the Bahia Association of Cotton Producers (Abapa) will promote the virtual launch of Monitora Oeste, a digital system that sends cell phone alerts of the advance of the cotton ramularia stain and Asian soybean rust over Western Bahia. The event is free and will take place through the Abapa channel on Youtube. Through technology, it is possible to follow the territorial spread of diseases over western Bahia - a region of national prominence in the production of cotton and soybeans. Within Monitora Oeste, the user will be able to consult daily maps of occurrences and favorable weather conditions for them to occur. Searches can be filtered by municipalities, types of cultivation areas and phytosanitary centers. Monitora Oeste's database is fed by a network of informants made up of researchers, extension workers and regional producers who travel through Bahia's fields of soybean and cotton plantations during the harvest period.
