Embrapa tests new irrigated rice cultivars for Roraima, Brazil

The research work is carried out in a network of tests throughout the country by Embrapa, through the MelhorArroz Project. The objective of the project is to carry out a research program with tests of new strains for the generation/recommendation of new cultivars. On average, around 300 new lines are evaluated each year with the objective of higher yields (10,000 kg/ha or more), better grain quality for the industry and consumers (Premium type), in addition to resistance to the main diseases. . In parallel, the best cultivars released are, in part, also used to incorporate the herbicide tolerance characteristic for use mainly in areas already infested by weeds, especially red rice and rice grass. In this research, new cultivars that could be used in irrigated rice production systems in Roraima have already been and are being obtained.
