The European grain and oilseed traders, grouped in COCERAL, have revised their initial forecast for the grain harvest in Spain for the current year 2022 slightly downwards. They now point to a volume of 20.99 million tons, compared to the 21.5 million that advanced last December. In the case of the EU-27, on the contrary, they have raised the figure released in December, from 281.2 million tons, to 282.6 million. In both cases, the harvests are lower than those of 2021. The drop compared to last year in Spain would be mainly due to shorter harvests of common wheat, barley and maize, as a result of lower yields, as the area has remained fairly stable. As for the EU-27, the production of common wheat falls especially and, to a lesser extent, that of barley and triticale, some falls that are not compensated by the expected increase in the production of rye and oats.
