In the period from July to November of the 2020/21 marketing year, Germany imported a total of 2.9 million tons of rapeseed. This corresponds to an increase of 17 percent compared to the same period in the previous year. A development that is surprising in view of the larger rapeseed harvest in Germany in 2020, but which is likely to be related to the competitive supply from the Baltic States, Ukraine and Canada in the months after the harvest. In relation to the observation period, the Ukraine remains the most important rapeseed origin for Germany. But imports of 541,000 tons from there do not come close to the record high 638,200 tons of the previous year. The reason is that in 2020 Ukraine harvested 2.5 million tons less rapeseed than in the previous year, which reduces its exportable surplus accordingly.
