For soft wheat, a planted area of 4.75 Mha is expected, 1.7% more than a year ago and a figure similar to the average for 2018-2022 (+0.1%). With the exception of Brittany, all regions would see their common winter wheat acreage increase compared to 2022. Likewise, the winter barley area should continue to increase, up to 1.3 Mha in 2023, an increase of 1.0% in one year and 3.9% in five years. On the contrary, the areas of durum wheat, oats and rye fell. The area of durum winter wheat is estimated at 233,000 ha, which implies that it would fall again for the second consecutive year. They should decline 4.4% compared to 2022 and 12.5% compared to the five-year average.
