Fresh food sales rise by 8% in October, according to NIQ

Sales of fresh food have increased by 8.3% last October compared to the same month in 2024, double that of packaged foods (+4.1%), according to the latest data from the consulting firm NIQ. The study highlights the commitment of Spaniards to a healthier diet at a time when the consumption of ultra-processed foods is being questioned more, and administrations are taking measures to discourage their intake. As of the end of October 2025, the mass consumption market in Spain has increased its sales by 5.3% annually, up to 129 billion euros, and its volume by 2.5%, a growth driven by fresh foods. Perishable foods have experienced an 8.3% increase in spending, compared to the 4.1% increase in packaged products, despite prices rising more in fresh foods (+4.2%) than in packaged foods (+2%).
