At A Vivir Tierra y Mar we have taken a first photograph of the effects of the frosts, recorded this week, on the primary sector. In Lorca, it has affected certain vegetables that will see their caliber reduced, such as broccoli or iceberg lettuce. The greatest condition has been suffered by the artichoke, the most delicate crop. According to Plácido Pérez Chuecos, a farmer in the area, 30% has been completely lost and another 50% will only be worth for the canning industry, notably lowering its value and the benefit of the farmer. To fight against frost in vegetables there are only thermal blankets, capable of raising temperatures by one or two degrees. An expensive system that does not guarantee success, as explained by Pérez.
