In general, over the year, average retail fruit prices in Tbilisi, according to a retail audit, increased by 37%. This is the most significant price increase among all the cities in the region in which the audit was conducted. As in most other countries, the largest price increase was for apple, which rose in price in Tbilisi by 71% per year. The main reason is a sharp decline in apple production in Georgia in 2019, as well as an increase in consumption due to coronavirus in Europe, which led to an increase in apple prices in all countries of the region. In second place in terms of price growth was peach and nectarine. Prices for these fruits rose by 48% per year, which did not prevent the Georgian peach from being almost the cheapest in the region. Consumers in the Georgian capital paid less for peaches than consumers in Chisinau, Tashkent, and Dushanbe, not to mention Kiev and the Dnieper.
