(Chuncheon=Yonhap News) Reporter Yang Ji-woong = The "Gangwon Eco-Friendly Astragalus Producer Association," the only eco-friendly astragalus producer group in the country, and Pyeongchang F&B, a specialized organic extract tea company, held a business agreement ceremony on the 13th at the Pyeongchang F&B headquarters in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, to strategize the astragalus consumption market.
According to the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Agricultural Technology Institute, Gangwon astragalus accounts for approximately 53% of the national production, and over 90% in the case of organic astragalus, but has faced difficulties in securing sales channels due to the stagnation in the consumption of medicinal crops.
In response, the Agricultural Technology Institute has been focusing on establishing a stable sales channel for astragalus-growing farmers and resolving the raw material supply insecurity of distribution companies since 2023. It has supported the launch of the first national astragalus producer association and has been working to create a stable production and distribution foundation by discovering new distribution companies.
As a result, last year, the first organic astragalus supply contract was initiated, and in collaboration with distribution companies, three types of organic astragalus extract teas were launched in major online markets, diversifying the strategy for the consumption market.
This year, through a business agreement with Pyeongchang F&B, the supply of one ton of organic astragalus, double the amount from last year, is being promoted while new products are being released.
Crop Research Division Director Ko Byung-dae said, "We expect that Gangwon's organic astragalus, along with more medicinal crops, will meet consumers, and we will strengthen cooperation between producers and distribution companies to enhance the competitiveness of the medicinal crop industry and stabilize sales channels."
