(Chuncheon=Yonhap News) Reporter Yang Ji-woong = Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 14th that it will fully enter into a response system to prevent winter agricultural field disasters starting from the 15th until March 15 of next year for a period of four months.
Through this, the province plans to strengthen preemptive inspections and preventive measures, particularly focusing on agricultural facilities vulnerable to heavy snow and cold waves (700 vinyl houses, 125 ginseng cultivation facilities, 645 livestock facilities), and to activate a rapid and efficient recovery system in the event of a disaster.
The province will establish a plan for the implementation of winter agricultural disaster countermeasures, build an emergency communication network between the province and cities/counties, and conduct guidance for preventing fruit tree and livestock damage, among other measures.
Major agricultural facilities such as vinyl houses and livestock barns are undergoing regular inspections and maintenance activities.
Additionally, the province is strengthening the management of heating facilities and disaster prevention materials, and promoting the enrollment of agricultural and livestock disaster insurance to ensure practical compensation in the event of a disaster.
The province will operate an agricultural disaster countermeasures command center to maintain a 24-hour emergency duty system when a weather alert is issued, and will maintain an immediate and systematic response system according to phased action guidelines, including situation dissemination, damage assessment, and emergency recovery.
Furthermore, the province plans to closely cooperate with related organizations such as the Agricultural Technology Institute and the Agricultural Cooperative to focus on minimizing damage by providing guidance to farmers and promoting damage management tips.
