Garlic prices skyrocket in Indonesia, government asked to evaluate import regulations

The government needs to evaluate garlic import regulations to ensure their effectiveness and impact on garlic demand in the country. "Garlic is the main raw material for household consumption and the food and beverage industry. Its availability needs to be ensured to avoid scarcity and soaring prices," said Researcher at the Center for Indonesian Policy Studies (CIPS) Hasran in his statement, Wednesday (31/5). The price of garlic is Rp. 30,670 per kilogram (kg) in April 2022. This price will then increase to Rp. 36,170/kg in May 2023. This price increase needs to be addressed immediately to maintain the affordability of industry and household consumers to this one commodity.
