Import is blocked even in case of trace contamination... 10 times higher than international radioactivity standards Amid growing calls from fishermen's groups that Japanese marine products should be completely banned, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced that it is strictly managing the radiation safety of Japanese marine products and is banning the import of contaminated Japanese marine products into the country. Since September 2013, the government has banned the import of all marine products produced in the eight prefectures around the nuclear power plant, including Fukushima, and is also conducting radioactivity tests upon each import of marine products from regions other than the eight prefectures. In particular, inspection of imported marine products from Japan is managed meticulously and safely in three stages: document inspection, on-site inspection, and detailed inspection.
