Grain exports from Ukraine exceed 5 million tonnes in March

KIEV (Reuters) - Ukraine's grain exports have reached 5.1 million tonnes so far in March, compared with 1.4 million tonnes in March 2022, Agriculture Ministry data showed on Wednesday. Ukraine's Black Sea ports, key grain export routes, were blocked after the Russian invasion in February 2022, causing a sharp drop in shipments that were only available through small river ports on the Danube or via the western border. The ministry said Ukraine's total grain exports have fallen by 16.7% to 37.4 million tonnes so far in the 2022/23 season (July-June) compared to the same period in 2021/22. Volume so far in the current season has included around 12.8 million tonnes of wheat, 22 million tonnes of corn and 2.27 million tonnes of barley. After a nearly six-month blockade caused by the Russian invasion, three Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea were liberated at the end of July under an agreement between Moscow and Kiev brokered by the United Nations and Turkey.
