Consumers in Metro Manila can expect a steady supply of fish to meet their affordable protein needs, despite high pork and chicken prices. Taal Lake, the country's largest freshwater lake, has suffered only minor damage from the eruption, resulting in a plentiful tilapia supply. The aquaculture industry is set to contribute to the supply stabilization, with expectations of falling fish prices based on previous trends. The Department of Agriculture has also lifted the closed fishing season in the Visayan Sea. Food security advocacy group Tugon Kabuhayan is advocating for more investments in fisheries production, as well as cold chain and logistics, to prevent food waste and ensure freshness.
