France: Cereals and protein crop harvest would be down while oilseeds up

According to Agreste forecasts established on July 1, the straw cereal harvest (excluding rice) would be down by 3.4 Mt over one year, to 48.3 Mt, i.e. a drop of 6.5%. Durum wheat is the most affected (-16.6%), ahead of soft wheat (-7.2%) and barley (-2.4%). Maize gives up 5.8% of its sole at 1.46 Mha. Protein crop production is announced to be down 19.6% compared to 2021, in line with a 19.8% decline in surface area. Rapeseed production is close to 4 Mt (+20.4%), thanks to a 23.8% increase in surface area. Sunflower and soybeans increased by 20.3% and 15.6% respectively in surface area. The sole of sugar beets fell by 1.3% while that of ware potatoes and mid-season potatoes increased by 1.7%. Soft wheat: 69.9 q/ha, 4.7 Mha, 32.9 Mt Soft wheat production is estimated at 32.9 Mt, down 7.2% from the 2021 harvest and 5.9% from the 2017-2021 average.
