High Citrus Supply Puts Pressure on Prices

Citrus production in Rio Grande do Sul continues with good quality, but excess supply has caused a drop in prices paid to farmers. The scenario was detailed in the Conjunctural Report released this Wednesday (18th) by Emater/RS-Ascar. In the Caxias do Sul region, orchards are showing a high fruit load, with a quality standard considered satisfactory by the institution's technicians. Despite good conditions, the large market availability has limited production absorption. According to the report, tangerines are being sold at R$ 2.99 per kilo in local retail promotions. For producers, the price per 20-kilo box ranges between R$ 20.00 and R$ 28.00. In the administrative region of Erechim, the commercialization of oranges from the Salustiana, Iapar, Rubi, and Hamlin varieties continues.
