Cosun is running a good campaign and the beet price for 2022 seems to be a good amount. 'Between 52 and 60 euros per ton', predicts agronomy manager Rik Gengler. This week he updated growers from Eastern Flevoland in Dronten about the state of affairs at Cosun and the current beet campaign. The turnout was good with more than a hundred seats occupied by arable farmers. A higher beet price is badly needed to remain competitive with other crops. The positive forecast for the beet price has everything to do with the prospects for the sugar market in Europe. 'The European beet area is declining, so buyers are getting nervous,' says Gengler. 'Cosun benefits optimally from this.' The world market price for white sugar on the commodity exchange in London is now quoted at 530 euros per tonne. European prices are even higher.
