IMF chief urges India to reconsider ban on wheat exports

International Monetary Fund head Kristalina Georgieva urged India to reconsider its wheat export ban, saying the country can play a key role in international food security and global stability. “I am really aware of the fact that India needs to feed almost 1.35 billion people and I am really aware of the heat wave that has reduced agricultural productivity, but I would ask India to reconsider its decision as soon as possible, because as more countries impose export restrictions the more tempted others will be to do so, and we will end up as a global community less prepared to deal with the crisis," she told NDTV at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
