Inacal approved two new technical standards to boost the competitiveness of quinoa

With the aim of strengthening the competitiveness of one of the country's most representative superfoods, the National Institute of Quality (Inacal) approved two new Peruvian Technical Standards (NTP) that establish quality requirements for white quinoa grain as a raw material and for raw quinoa flakes intended for human consumption. These NTPs seek to elevate the quality standards of Peruvian quinoa in a context of increasing global demand for healthy foods. Their implementation will allow for the improvement of the product's international positioning, guarantee its safety, nutritional value, and sensory characteristics, as well as strengthen the production chains that directly benefit producers in the high Andean zones. According to the Center for Research in Economics and Global Business (CIEN-ADEX), in 2024 Peruvian quinoa exports reached $138.8 million, registering a growth of 35.6% compared to the previous year.
