India's government is launching a program to address shortages of grain storage infrastructure, particularly at the local level, and strengthen food security in the world's most populous country. The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi approved an Interministerial Committee (IMC) on May 31 to facilitate the program “World's Largest Grain Storage Plan in Cooperative Sector”, which involves creating a variety of agricultural infrastructure, including a warehouse, a personalized contracting center and processing units at the level of the Primary Agricultural Credit Companies (PACS), transforming them into multipurpose entities.
