Due to the drought, yield expectations have been scaled back in some parts of Europe. In Southeastern Europe, the drought hit the summer crops, especially in eastern Romania, eastern Bulgaria and southern Ukraine. Negative effects can be seen especially in corn and sunflowers. The persistent precipitation deficit is now also having a negative effect in central Ukraine. In Western Europe, temperatures fell after the heat waves in August, but the rain deficit persisted in large parts of France, Belgium, Luxembourg, western Germany and the southern Netherlands. This reduced the yield expectations there for maize, sugar beet and potatoes. In contrast, favorable weather conditions prevailed in Central and Northern Europe. There, the excess precipitation benefited the summer crops in northern Italy, Austria, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland and Belarus.
