Turkey: Local pulses production mobilization from Izmir Metropolitan Municipality

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is starting the local pulses production mobilization. The metropolitan city, which is preparing to make purchase-guaranteed production agreements with the producers for chickpeas, lentils and broad beans grown without water in the Izmir climate, will deliver the pulses to families in need. In line with the Izmir Agriculture strategy, which was created with the vision of "Another Agriculture is Possible" of Tunç Soyer, the Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, a local pulses production mobilization is started.
Taking action to prevent the impact of the exchange rate increase on food prices, the metropolitan city is preparing to make purchase-guaranteed production agreements with the producers for chickpeas, lentils and broad beans grown without water in the Izmir climate. The Metropolitan Municipality will deliver the pulses produced to families in need. President Tunç Soyer stated that most of Turkey's pulses need is supplied by imports and said, "This causes the increase in the exchange rate to be directly reflected on food prices and makes it difficult for our people to purchase pulses products, which are their basic food needs. We produce domestic pulses in order not to starve anyone in İzmir.
