The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) is urging livestock breeders to adopt stringent biosecurity measures following the detection of foot-and-mouth disease outbreaks in several European countries, including Slovakia, Germany, Hungary, and Romania. The disease has also been identified in previously unaffected small ruminants in Hungary. In an effort to contain the spread, the BFSA plans to keep stakeholders informed and has outlined precautions such as avoiding the purchase of animals from disease-affected areas, separating new animals from the herd, and disinfecting vehicles and visitors. In case of any suspected disease, farmers are advised to report to a veterinarian or the BFSA emergency hotline.
