The cultivation of nuts in Spain maintains its line of expansion, driven by the considerable increase in demand for these products on an international scale, and especially in the European Union, according to a study published by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) on its website that analyzes the productive reality of the sector.

This publication completes the analyzes of fruit tree surfaces that began in April with stone fruit, continued in July with citrus fruits and now conclude with nuts. The information analyzed in the study of nuts in Spain collects data from almost 80% of the sector as a whole. It follows that pistachio is one of the crops with the greatest expansion process in recent years, and now reaches 48,000 planted hectares, with growth in 2020 of 31% in dry land and 20% in irrigated land, for the that 63% of the surface has not yet entered into production. The almond tree remains as the majority crop, with nearly 600,000 hectares analyzed in this study. Although to a lesser extent than previous years, in 2020 the experienced surface growth that reached 3% in dry land and 10% irrigated.
