(Hongseong=Yonhap News) Reporter Han Jong-gu = The Chungnam Sejong Agricultural Cooperative announced that it held a rice cake sharing event made from domestic rice ahead of Chuseok.
Around 10 employees of the Agricultural Cooperative distributed rice cakes to local residents at Cheonan Asan Station concourse, urging them to join the domestic rice consumption campaign.
According to the Statistics Korea, the average per capita consumption of food rice last year was 55.8 kg, the lowest since the survey began in 1962.
This is half the amount in 1994 (120.5 kg).
Lee Myeong-yeol, Deputy Director of the Chungnam Sejong Agricultural Cooperative, said, "Agriculture and farming are the core values that form the foundation of life and community," and "I hope that the faces of farmers are full of bright smiles and abundance as we celebrate the Chuseok holiday."
