Over 18 million tonnes (Mt) of grain, including 46% corn and 28% wheat, have been shipped worldwide under the Black Sea Grain Initiative from August 2022 to mid-January 2023 according to the Joint Coordination Center (JCC) of the United Nations. While shipments were made to 42 countries, China is the main recipient with more than 3 Mt. It is followed by Spain, Turkey and Italy. While all North African countries benefited from cereal exports, only Djibouti, Ethiopia and Sudan in sub-Saharan Africa received them.
